Shadowboxing

“Shadow Boxing” is composed of a colored glass/aluminum canopy with a painted pattern on the plaza surface.  Because the entrance faces south, the relatively moving angle of the sun creates slow kinetic “light painting” across the facade and plaza throughout the day.  At night, a single source high-intensity overhead light generates a colored pattern on the entrance plaza below.

As well, there is a painted pattern on the plaza that is the pattern of the colored shadows when the sun is at its zenith point on the Fall and Spring equinox.  In this way, the shadow pattern moves over this ground-etching in a fugue-like way, sometimes radically in counterpoint to and, at other times, in imitation of the pattern.
