LightShadow: BCHC
An Urban Musical Instrument

LightShadow: BCHC is an interactive sound installation, an “urban
musical instrument,” created by artist/composer Christopher
Janney. Waving a hand in front of one of the 32 red “eyes” interrupts
a beam of light. This movement activates the artwork, creating a mix
of melodic (marimba, flute) and environmental (birds, crickets)
sounds. The result is an ever-changing series of imaginary “sound
images” (Everglades, rainforest).
This artwork is dedicated to Mary and Kevin Mahony, Chandra and
Ravindra Singh Bhandari together with Rajkumari and Radha Krishna
Gupta.
LightShadow: BCHC was commissioned by Nupur and Gopal Gupta
to generate a playful, creative and healing environment for children of
all ages.
